Experiential Learning in Action

At the McQuinn Center, we are dedicated to cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset that empowers the next generation of innovators to address existing and emerging challenges and seize opportunities in agriculture, foods, and natural resources sectors. Through a hands-on, minds-on learning approach, we equip students with entrepreneurial competencies to develop sustainable, innovative solutions that transform these sectors while strengthening resilient communities worldwide.

One of the ways we bridge the gap between theory and practice is through student pitch competitions. These competitions provide a platform for students to apply entrepreneurial concepts, address real-world challenges, and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through these competitions, students:

  • Present their innovative ideas to a panel of experts and peers.
  • Receive valuable feedback to refine and strengthen their concepts.
  • Compete for seed funding to turn their ideas into real-world solutions.

Beyond fostering innovation, these competitions equip students with essential, transferable skills, including:

  • Critical thinking & problem-solving
  • Creativity & innovation
  • Interpersonal communication & teamwork
  • Leadership & resilience

By developing these competencies, students are better prepared for entrepreneurial ventures and workforce opportunities, aligning with the CAFNR strategic goals of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in agriculture and life sciences.
